Cold air began pouring into the state late Saturday, and it’s set us up for a frigid work week ahead. Your weather timeline guides you through part of it:


We have a trio of winter-weather-related advisories coming up the next couple of days, with a cold weather advisory, winter weather advisory, and an extreme cold watch all in play.



It will be a bitter cold start to the school and work week, so get everyone bundled up accordingly. Wind chills will be well below zero to start the next few days:



Light snow will spread across southwest and central Iowa starting during the morning hours Monday and lingering into early evening in some areas. Timing and expected accumulations can be seen in the animation and image below. Des Moines will see very little, with more falling around places like Creston, Bedford, Corning, Mt. Ayr, and Lamoni.

Looking at the 50 members of the European ensemble model, vertical columns indicate consistency. So Monday and Wednesday look to bring decent light snow chances to parts of Iowa. We’ll have to keep an eye on Saturday as well.

We do see some relief coming our way temperature-wise as we move toward the end of the month and the beginning of March.
