1 injured while trying to put out garage fire in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — One person was treated for injuries he sustained while trying to put out a garage fire on Thursday afternoon.

At around 12:20 p.m. the Des Moines Fire Department responded to a report of a garage on fire in the 200 block of NE 47th Place. When firefighters arrived on scene they saw heavy flames and smoke coming from a detached garage. The fire was quickly put out.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the individual who tried to put out the fire was treated for smoke inhalation. The individual was not one of the firefighters who responded.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
