DES MOINES, Iowa — Prior to Wednesday’s snowfall, winter this year has been disappointing for Iowans who own a snowmobile.
Barry Starmer, a member of the Saylorville Dam Snowmobile Club, said that Wednesday’s snow is the first snow this year that has provided good riding conditions.
“This would be the first time in Iowa that we’ve had rideable snow although about a month ago we had two or three and few people rode. But I never took mine out because to make it good riding, this is the kind of snow we need. And so it’d be a busy weekend around here,” Starmer said.
Sports vehicle shops have seen an uptick in customers asking about snowmobiles leading up to the snow storm.
Chris Jiles, an employee at Hicklin Power Sports, expects lots of snowmobilers to enjoy the new snow this weekend.
“We also have gotten quite a few phone calls of random parts and accessories that maybe they needed at the last minute that just get their machine up and going and kind of smoothed out. But we’ve had plenty of people that were kind of gearing up for this a few days ago too. So definitely the excitement’s in the air,” Jiles said.
