IOWA — The first big winter storm of the season resulted in a mess on Iowa’s roadways Wednesday.

According to an Iowa State Patrol post on Facebook, from midnight to 5 p.m. troopers responded to 298 calls for service. Those calls included 112 crashes, with 101 being for just property damage and 11 for personal injuries. There were no fatal crashes reported during this time frame.

One of those crashes included a semi that crashed in the eastbound lanes of I-80 east of Highway 69. According to the ISP, the driver lost control and the semi crashed into the center concrete barrier, causing chunks of concrete to fall into the westbound travel lanes. Both directions of travel were closed while crews worked to clear the scene. No injuries were reported.
