Beer the top of Iowan’s Super Bowl Sunday shopping list

DES MOINES, Iowa — Shoppers across Iowa are hitting grocery and liquor stores to pick-up last-minute food and beverages for Super Bowl Sunday.

Sam Guyer, a Beer Specialist at Wall to Wall Wine & Spirits in West Des Moines, said this year shoppers have been going big on beer.

“This year I think the big trends were definitely beer. A lot of domestics we see people skew typically towards local beer a lot too. We do a lot with like Barn Town, Lua, Pulpit Rock as well as Confluence. A lot of those things sell really well for us and people really seem to enjoy things that are made in Iowa.” Guyer said.

Experts estimate that 50 million cases of beer will be drank on Super Bowl Sunday.

Andy Sterner, a customer at Wall to Wall Wine & Spirits, said he will enjoy beer during the game but plans to drink modestly due to working on Monday.

“I’d say about six Bud Light bottles is probably what I’m going to do. Maybe a little bit of liquor action in there with some shooters. I’m a tequila guy. Personally, I’ve got some whiskey at home, so might dabble in that. I’m really not. You know, I got work on Monday, those thing. So, like, I’m not going to go crazy about it, but I want to make sure that I have a good time watching the big game.” Sterner said.
