DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines woman plans to plead guilty for her alleged involvement in a deadly traffic stop in which two officers were shot.

Back on September 16th, 2024, Des Moines police officers attempted to pull over Joshua Green, who then opened fire and wounded one officer in the head and the other in the arm.  Officers returned fire killing Green.

Shawnna Cunningham, 47, was Green’s girlfriend and a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Court documents state Cunningham purchased the gun back in May of 2020. Green was later arrested with the weapon which was returned to Cunningham in March of 2022. Following Green’s release from prison in January of 2024, Cunningham allegedly allowed Green to access, possess, and use her firearm.

Cunningham was indicted in federal court in October of 2024 with charges of unlawful user in possession of a firearm, aiding and abetting felon in possession of a firearm, and disposal of a firearm to a felon.

Earlier this week, details of a plea agreement were filed. In exchange for pleading guilty to the unlawful user in possession of a firearm and aiding and abetting felon in possession of a firearm charges, the disposal of a firearm to a felon charge will be dropped.

A hearing on the plea agreement is scheduled for February 10th.

If the judge approves the deal, Cunningham still faces up to 15 years in prison on each charge.
