Des Moines, IOWA — A winter storm could mean freezing rain intersecting with the evening commute across much of the state of Iowa on Wednesday.
This storm will move into Iowa from the south and west on Wednesday. The wintry mix will be moving north through the day. A Winter Weather Advisory starts in southern Iowa at 9 AM on Wednesday and ends at 9 PM. A light wintry mix will be moving through and freezing on contact. This will cause a light glazing of ice. The untreated areas will be slippery in spots.
The rest of the state, including the Metro, will go into the Winter Weather Advisory at Noon. The heaviest precipitation will move through the Metro after 1 PM and before 8 PM on Wednesday. This will impact the evening commute.

Wednesday’s Winter Weather Advisory

The rain will be light and spotty. The heaviest will fall in eastern Iowa by the end of the day. The temperatures will be just below the freezing point. A light glazing of ice will be possible.
Please be careful if you have travel plans in Iowa on Wednesday. It will be slippery in spots. Thursday is looking warmer and mainly dry.
