DES MOINES, Iowa — The Trump administration implemented tariffs on Canada, China, and Mexico Saturday which could impact the price of all types of goods ranging from groceries to the price of gas.

Trump imposed a tariff rate of 10% on all imports from China and 25% on goods from Mexico and Canada, the exception being a 10% tariff on Canadian oil.

Drivers in Des Moines had a range of reactions when it comes to the potential of higher pump prices.

Josh Ainley, a Des Moines driver, said that he thinks prices will drop.

“I think gas prices are going to go down. I think we’re going to start doing more local to national drilling and I think we’ll be a fine spot.” Ainley said.

Jack Gerlach, another Des Moines driver, said that he is not worried that prices will increase do to tariffs.

“Not really, because I’ve seen it here. I’ve seen it here over 3 to 4 bucks. So, it’ll take it up or go down. It doesn’t really make a difference.” Gerlach said.
