CLIVE, Iowa — An Ankeny woman won $100,000 from an Iowa Lottery scratch ticket and plans to celebrate with an anniversary trip.
Immediately after scratching her ticket, 25-year-old Reyna Serna-Garcia pulled out her phone to Facetime her husband.
“He had the biggest smile on his face, close to the same smile I saw the day we got married,” she told the Iowa Lottery. “He was like, ‘You’re kidding! This is not true!’ Big old grin on his face.”
Serna-Garcia purchased the winning ticket at the Filling Station, located at 2400 University Boulevard in Ames, where she had stopped to get breakfast before work. Once at work, she scratched her ticket and received a big surprise.
“I scan it in my app, and I’m like, ‘You’re kidding! This is – what?!’” Serna-Garcia said. “I’m just shaking. It’s just an adrenaline rush. Very overwhelming. Speechless, clueless, mindless, but in a great way.”
Serna-Garcia won the “Triple Red 777s” second top prize of 100,000 and claimed her top prize at the Iowa Lottery headquarters in Clive.
Serna-Garcia says she and her husband are planning on taking a trip to celebrate their one-year anniversary, retire debt, and pay off her car.
