DES MOINES, Iowa — Firefighters are on the scene at a southside Des Moines used bookstore after passersby reported flames coming from the building.
Capt. Stacia Swanson of the Des Moines Fire Department said the first calls came in around 9:51 a.m. Wednesday about a fire at 4626 SW 9th Street, at the corner of Herold Avenue. The building houses the Help A Mind Thrive Keep A Book store.
Multiple fire crews were dispatched to the fire because of the large amount of flammable material in the structure. There are four engines on the scene and three aerial trucks working to put out the flames by dumping water through the roof.
Capt. Swanson said no individuals were reported in the building when the fire started. At this point, there isn’t any indication the fire is suspicious according to Capt. Swanson. A fire investigator is on the scene to help determine the cause once all the flames have been extinguished.
