DES MOINES, Iowa — A raw sewage discharge has been detected in a creek on the southeast side of Des Moines.
According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, on Tuesday raw sewage was seen entering a storm sewer in the Starbucks parking lot at SE 14th Street and East Diehl Avenue due to a sanitary sewer overflow. The storm sewer discharges into Yeader Creek, which runs from Easter Lake to Fleur Drive near the Des Moines International Airport.
Authorities have responded to the scene and clean-up and repairs are underway, the DNR said.
So far, no dead fish have been found. The DNR is warning the public to avoid the creek at this time.
