NEWTON, IOWA — Fire destroyed a building at the Heartland Co-Op in Newton early Tuesday morning. The building was reported to be fully engulfed when firefighters arrived at 7:30 am. The closest hydrant to the scene was a quarter-mile away.
Officials say the building was roughly 60 feet by 80 feet in area and housed numerous semi-trucks and a feed truck. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
