Madison County man dies after accident while clearing timber

MADISON COUNTY, Iowa – A Saint Charles man is dead after what officials say was a logging accident in a rural area west of Truro.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says a 911 call came in around 10:31 Tuesday morning about an unresponsive male found in the 3100 block of Terrace Lane. When deputies and other first responders arrived, they located 74-year-old Leon Nazworthy. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The MCSO said Nazworthy was clearing timber by himself and the preliminary investigation shows a logging accident occurred. The exact cause of death is still under investigation.

The Truro Fire Department, Madison County Ambulance, and the Madison County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted the MCSO at the scene.
