DES MOINES, Iowa — A California man is behind bars in Iowa after police say a narcotics K9 sniffed out luggage containing more than 50 pounds of marijuana at the Des Moines International Airport.
An anonymous tip came in to the Des Moines Police Department Thursday that there was a large shipment of marijuana headed to Des Moines on a flight from Las Vegas. Investigators identified the luggage believed to contain the marijuana and K9 Blaise alerted on the luggage after a sniff of the exterior.
Police kept an eye on the luggage and detained 21-year-old Tanitoluwa Arogundade, of Chatsworth, California, after he claimed it. Criminal complaints filed in the case say after obtaining a search warrant, police found 56 pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed packages inside Arogundade’s two suitcases.
Arogundade has been charged with controlled substance violation and failure to affix a drug tax stamp. Both are Class D felonies. He is being held in the Polk County Jail.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for February 3rd.
