More vision screening tools added at Johnston schools

JOHNSTON, Iowa — More vision screening is available at Johnston Community School District thanks to a Johnston Community School Foundation, Johnston Lions Club, and Advanced Eye Care PC grant.

The Welch Allyn Vision Spot Screeners cost over $7,000 and the district purchased a second vision screener with the funds.

The district nurses applied for the grant as the vision screeners can help quickly screen young children’s eyes for potential sight problems that families may not be aware of. Adding the second screener will help the nurses go through a larger number of students, more quickly.

Vision issues can lead to academic struggles for students if left unchecked.
