MIDDLETOWN, Iowa — An explosion was reported at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in southeast Iowa Wednesday morning.
According to a post on Facebook, at around 9:30 a.m. an explosion occurred in the ammunition production area of the plant. No injuries were reported.
Officials with the plant released a statement about the incident, crediting the safety protocols in place for ensuring no one was injured. The statement says in part:
Producing ammunition is a dangerous business. Many safety protocols are put in place to ensure operators are exposed to as little danger as possible. Today’s incident shows the effectiveness of those protocols.

The cause of the explosion has not been released. An investigation is ongoing.
