Bubbly Paws brings doggie spa experience to Ankeny

ANKENY, Iowa — Bubbly Paws marked their first Iowa location with a weekend of grand opening deals and celebrations in Ankeny.

Bubbly Paws was founded 10 years ago by Keith Miller after seeing a gap in the pet care and grooming industry. This weekend, co-owners Leslie Shipp and Randy Larsen, brought that experience to Iowa.

“Perfect town, we don’t really think there’s anything else like this in the Des Moines metro,” said Larsen. “It’s really a salon boutique for your dogs.”

Offering self-service dog washing and full-service grooming, Larsen says the shop aims at providing each pet and owner with a service that best suits their needs.

“People can come in and they can do self-wash, we can wash for them, we
can do complete grooming packages here,” said Larsen. “We think it’s a little bit of a different offering that a lot of people haven’t been able to find in other places and it’s a little bit warmer environment.”

Co-owner Leslie Shipp used to teach before opening the shop, but says she still sees an opportunity to impart some knowledge.

“It’s interesting because, you know, here I get to teach some. When people come in, they don’t know what kind of brushes do what and how they’re supposed to use them, and so I can teach there,” said Shipp.

Larsen says the shop is nice cause it means people won’t have to go through the hassle and mess of washing their dog at home, an often difficult process.

“I think when you look at this, it’s more, it’s more of a salon feel for your dog and I think that the tubs are more like you would find at home,” said Larsen. “So, your dog’s going to be more comfortable.”
