AMES, Iowa — The Ames Police Department is investigating a possible homicide after a man was found with a gunshot wound and later died Saturday evening.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Ames police and medical officers responded to an apartment located at South 5th Street in Ames.

Officers arrived on scene and found one man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

As the investigation continues an increased police presence can be expected in this area.
