URBANDALE, Iowa– The Iowa Board of Regents gave its blessing to the next phase of building the CyTown complex between Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum.

The project will be done in partnership between ISU, the Iowa State Research Park, and Goldenrod companies.

“The CyTown project would not be possible without the tremendous collaboration from many partners including the Board of Regents, the City of Ames and McFarland Clinic,” said Iowa State President Wendy Wintersteen, in a news release. “We look forward to the ongoing partnerships as the CyTown development begins to take shape.”

CyTown will consist of eight new buildings, 60 one-of-a kind living units, and there will be 215 motel units. CyTown has 96,000 square feet of office space, which will be leased by the ISU Research Park who will be looking for businesses which fit the mission of ISU for taking research to the marketplace.

CyTown will also have a 2,800 person outdoor music venue and 72,000 square feet of retail, food and beverage space.

“I’m pleased to be able to bring the Board the fundamental agreements necessary for the continuation of that project, a 30-year development agreement with Goldenrod, Iowa State University and the Research Park,” said Michael Norton, who is General Counsel for Iowa State University. “There will be a related ground lease that would allow for the development of the 48 acres of land around and near the Iowa State Center and the University’s athletics facilities.”

The Regents approved both agreements and were generally pretty excited about this project.

“We’ve asked a lot of questions, the board has asked a lot of questions about this and we appreciate all of the hard work and answers we’ve gotten,” said David Barker, of the Board of Regents. “I want to thank President Wintersteen and Jamie Pollard for their vision on this.”

Construction on the buildings is set to get underway this coming spring.
