AMES, Iowa — On a cold night in January there was one tent camped outside the north entrance to Hilton Coliseum. Students Ian Hurley, and Jacob Janni, both from Johnston watched the Cyclone men defeat Texas Tech in overtime Saturday. They then headed for Ames to set up their tent.
The temperature was around 15 degrees with a wind blowing north of Hilton. The students don’t resume class after winter break until January 21.
“The tent fell down at one point in the middle of the night, which wasn’t too fun,” said Hurley. “We had to set it back up, but we’ve been able to fight the cold pretty well so it hasn’t been too bad.”
“We committed to it and we knew we were going do it and they’re also is a good amount of students who do have tickets to this game,” said Janni. “Pollard worked something out, he knew a lot of students were going come so I got one (ticket) for free with my student pass.”
The students say they expect more tents to go up between now and Wednesday. They say they want to be the first ones inside Hilton when the doors open.
