We’ve actually been a little warmer Saturday than Friday ahead of a small system that may bring us a light mix of wintry precipitation this evening. Impacts should be minor. Your weather timeline takes you into a colder Monday.

We may see a small amount of light snow and flurries and maybe a little freezing mist into the early morning hours on Sunday. As I type this, most of this precipitation is evaporating before reaching the surface. The best chance for any minor snow accumulations would be east of I-35.

Behind the system, we’ll see a breezy Sunday (as seen in the “gusts” graphic below) with falling temperatures during the day.

The colder air takes us into a chilly Monday and Tuesday, and both mornings it’s likely we’ll see wind chills below zero.

In addition, a fast-moving system very early on Tuesday morning may drop some light snow on the southwestern part of the state. We’ll keep you updated.

Turning to temperatures, the week starts out cold, but ends up being pretty nice by Thursday and Friday with above-average temperatures ahead!

However, colder air looks to return starting next Friday night. The 6-to-10 and 8-to-14-day graphics below show a colder end to January on the way. It also appears we may see at least some light snow chances during that timeframe. As the season-to-date snowfall image shows below, we haven’t seen much snowfall in most of Iowa so far this winter.
