DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man was sentenced to 55 years in prison after pleading guilty in the kidnapping of his former girlfriend.
33-year-old Troy Mure Jr. was arrested in September for kidnapping his former girlfriend. Mure struck his former girlfriend before pushing her into a car and fleeing. Mure was later located and taken in by the Metro STAR Tactical Unit.

On Friday, Mure pleaded guilty of second-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and felon in possession of a weapon. District Judge Joseph Seidlin ordered the sentences to run consecutively as part of a plea agreement.
Of the 55 years, Mure must serve a minimum of 22 1/2 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. Mure is also ordered to partake in Victim-Offender Dialogue.
Mure admits to breaking into the victim’s home while armed with a firearm, forcing her into a vehicle, and holding her against her will while driving around on September 21, 2024.
In a statement released by the Polk County Attorney’s office Mure reportedly told the court, “I didn’t want anyone to know where we were.”
Mure has three previous felony convictions. In July 2016, Mure was convicted of vehicular homicide in a crash that killed 22-year-old Scalicity Boyd on November 23, 2015.
Evidence indicates the vehicle was traveling 86 mph when it hit a utility pole. Mure was released after three years, serving the minimum term.
The kidnapping case was prosecuted by Assistant County Attorney Olu Salami, who was assisted by Ankit Pal and Chelsea Armbrecht. The investigation was led by Detective Ben Carter of the Des Moines Police Department.
