Ames shooting victim shows up at Des Moines hospital, investigation underway

AMES, Iowa — An investigation is underway after an individual who was shot in Ames showed up at a Des Moines hospital overnight.

According to the Ames Police Department, at around 11:13 p.m. Thursday officers responded to a report of gunshots in the area of the 4600 block of Mortensen Road. Officers arrived in the area, but were unable to locate a victim or a shooting scene.

Nearly an hour later, around 12:04 a.m., MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines alerted police of a gunshot victim who had shown up at the hospital. According to police, the victim said he was shot by an unknown person in Ames. The victim’s injuries are non-life threatening.

Police said there’s no ongoing danger to the public. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
