Des Moines Police release names of victim, officers involved in fatal shooting last week

DES MOINES, IOWA — The Des Moines Police Department is releasing more information about an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a man last week.

Charquan Hargrove, 32, was shot-and-killed by officers on January 2nd after he reportedly fired at the officers as they attempted to serve a warrant. On Friday, authorities released the names of the two officers involved in the shooting.

Senior Police Officers Brian Stern – a five-year veteran of the force – and Nicholas Rude – a two-year veteran of the force – have been placed on paid leave as the shooting death of Hargrove is investigated. According to Des Moines Police, video evidence shows Hargrove fired on officers first and was killed when the officers returned fire. Neither officer was injured.

Hargrove was wanted on warrants for Domestic Abuse Assault and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
