Stabbing suspect in custody following vehicle pursuit

DES MOINES, Iowa — The suspect in a stabbing incident has been taken into custody after leading the Des Moines Police Department in a vehicle pursuit.

According to the DMPD, at approximately 3:38 p.m. DMPD patrol officers and DMFD medics reported to the 3900 block of Sixth Avenue to investigate a stabbing.

Once officers were on the scene, the adult male suspect fled in a vehicle and was spotted a short distance away. A pursuit was initiated after the suspect refused to stop for law enforcement.

The pursuit ended when a DMPD officer performed a PIT maneuver at Beaver Avenue and Douglas Avenue. The suspect was non-compliant, and officers had to break the vehicle window to take him into custody.

During the arrest, two DMPD officers sustained minor hand injuries. One officer was transported to the hospital for treatment, the other was treated at the scene.

As a precaution, the suspect was evaluated for injuries at a local hospital.

The stabbing victim, an adult male who sustained an arm injury, declined transportation to the hospital.

Expect an increased police presence at Beaver Avenue and Douglas Avenue as the investigation continues.
