DES MOINES, Iowa — Many Iowans are working to keep their New Year’s resolutions right now and one program is helping keep them accountable by putting them in a friendly competition with friends and family.
Registration for the Live Healthy Iowa Wellness Challenge is open now and hard work starts January 13th. You can sign up to be part of a team of up to 10 people to track activity or weight loss goals. It helps keep those New Year’s resolutions past their typical breaking point by keeping each other accountable for doing your part.
“It’s a competition, but more thinking is that mutual accountability, so that then you know, if you’re watching right now at 6:15 in the morning, you may still be looking at that weather and thinking like, am I going to get out there today, or I’m going to go to the gym? What am I going to do this weekend with this weather? And by signing up and sharing goals with friends and family, it really provides a pathway towards success in the spring and springtime, and in the springtime, it gets easier, the suns out things get a little happier in the spring it feels like,” said Blake Boldon, Director of the Drake Relays.
You can register for the 10-Week Wellness Challenge here. The cost is $25 per person.
If you are using the challenge to get ready for another competition like the Drake Relays there is a deadline that you will want to know about, January 3rd is the last day you can sign up for early bird pricing for the Drake Relays road races. After that, prices will increase.
You can sign up for the 5k, 10k, or the half marathon here.
