DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is investigating after a driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a house early New Years Day.
According to the DMPD, in the early hours of Wednesday a car crashed into a home located in the 600 block of East 29th Street.
The driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into the front window of the home. Police say the driver had a brief conversation with the family asking them not to contact police before leaving the scene.
Police say the vehicle was a Lexus.
Nobody inside the home was injured during the crash.
“Two or three months ago the same thing happened to our neighbor where someone went through a T-intersection and plowed into the back of their car, pushed the car into their garage and they had damage,” said Jeremy Burke the homeowner.
Burke says this incident draws attention to the issue with T-intersections in that area.
“So, anything we can do to raise awareness that we need to have more, either flashing lights or indicators at T-intersections,” said Burke. “That you need to stop because the next thing is going to be, people, basically.”
Authorities have opened an investigation into the crash and continue the search for the driver.
