Marshalltown chase suspect located in hidden room, arrested

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — A Marshalltown man was arrested Monday after police say he led officers on a chase and concealed himself in a hidden room at his home.

Rogelio Sanchez-Sanchez

Rogelio Sanchez-Sanchez, 33, is being held in the Marshall County Jail on charges of eluding-2nd or subsequent offense, driving while barred, violation of a protective order, four counts of probation violation, and multiple traffic violations. His cash bond has been set at $75,000.

The Marshalltown Police Department says its officers located Sanchez-Sanchez around 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Casey’s on North 3rd Avenue and he had multiple active warrants. Police tried to stop him in the 800 block of North 3rd Avenue, but Sanchez-Sanchez refused to stop. He made it to his residence at 206 Palmer Street and was able to close the garage door behind him just as officers arrived.

Law enforcement officers from MPD and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on the home around 5:00 p.m. A K9 unit cleared the first floor and an indoor drone was used to clear the basement. During the search of the basement by the K9 unit, the dog alerted to a wall, where they found a hidden room and Sanchez-Sanchez was located inside. Officers were able to enter the room and take him into custody.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for January 10, 2025.
