Snow fell overnight, much of it melting onto wet roads with roadbed temperatures above freezing. Heavier totals were found south and west of the Des Moines metro area. A look at some totals below:

We’ll likely see some flurries and snow showers this evening and overnight. Little to no accumulation is expected.

Snow looks to start during the morning hours on Thursday and end by mid-to-late afternoon. It will not be as wet and slushy as the snow that fell today. A preliminary look at forecast totals is below. This forecast will likely be tweaked as Thursday approaches.



Another round of light snow is possible on Sunday, but it appears the heaviest impacts will be felt across Kansas and Missouri at this time.

Turning to temperatures, the trend is a downward one as we head through tonight and into the beginning of next week. We will certainly be reminded that January has arrived.







Subzero wind chills look likely Friday morning and beyond, so you’ll want to dress appropriately, especially as we move into next week.
