Pedestrian dies in I-80 crash in western Iowa

POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol is investigating after a Nebraska man was struck and killed by a vehicle in western Iowa early Monday morning.

A crash report said the incident happened around 12:10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-80 at the 11-mile marker, near Council Bluffs. According to the report, 51-year-old Michael Ponciano of Bellevue, Nebraska, was standing in the travel portion of the left lane when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle in the left lane.

Ponciano was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash.
