Woman injured in Christmas Day shooting has died, more information released

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department has released more information about a deadly shooting that occurred on Christmas Day.

At around 4:13 p.m. Wednesday officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2900 block of East 40th Court. When first responders arrived on scene they found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. According to DMPD, a 60-year-old man died from his injuries at the scene and a 53-year-old woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

On Thursday DMPD announced that the 53-year-old woman died from her injuries at the hospital.

According to DMPD, the man and woman were married. Police said evidence collected so far indicates that the man shot the woman before then shooting himself. Their names have not been released.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. This is the city’s 17th homicide in 2024.
