DES MOINES, Iowa — A new high-rise is coming to downtown Des Moines.
At a meeting Monday night the Des Moines City Council approved the development of a 33-story apartment building at the site of the former Kaleidoscope Mall.
According to the city, the high-rise will be the tallest building ever constructed downtown. It will add 390 residential units, with some as affordable housing units, as well as amenities like a coffee shop, dog park, and coworking spaces.
“This is a rare opportunity for our city,” Matt Anderson, deputy city manager, said in a statement. “We don’t get many proposals for buildings of this magnitude; this project will change Des Moines’ skyline and continue adding to the excitement in our city core.”
The project is estimated to cost over $5 million and is expected to be completed in 2027.
