DES MOINES, Iowa — Five Des Moines residents have been indicted in connection to a fentanyl bust on Wednesday.
Early Wednesday morning the Des Moines Police Department, along with several other agencies, executed over a dozen search warrants in areas around the metro. The search warrants were served as part of an investigation that began in January into an opioid-related death, the police department said.
As a result of the search warrants a federal grand jury returned an indictment that charged the following individuals:
- Devonte Darnell Hassell, 28, is charged with conspiracy to distribute and distribution of fentanyl. Hassell faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and a max of life.
- Ryan Redmond, 31, is charged with conspiracy to distribute and distribution of fentanyl. Redmond faces a minimum of 5 years and a max of 40 years in prison.
- Kevin Stanley Harris, Jr., 42, is charged with conspiracy to distribute and distribution of fentanyl. Due to a past drug felony conviction. Harris faces a minimum of 10 years and a max of life imprisonment.
- Adonis Angel Devora, 43, is charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. Devora faces a max of 20 years in prison.
- Ricky Jamall Ellis, 30, is charged with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. Ellis faces a max of 30 years in prison.
Four of the defendants were arrested in Des Moines, while one of the defendants was arrested in Houston, Texas.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Iowa, the search warrants resulted in the seizure of roughly 610 grams of a heroin/fentanyl mixture, about 135 grams of methamphetamine, and about 260 grams of marijuana. Nineteen firearms and over $13,000 in U.S. currency were also seized.
