DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police have made an arrest in a stabbing that happened on the city’s southeast side Tuesday night.
Alexis Jenkins, 30, is charged with willful injury-causing serious injury and domestic abuse assault display or use of a weapon.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, spokesperson of the Des Moines Police Department, said the stabbing happened around 11:12 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of E. Phillip Street. Criminal complaints say Jenkins came to the apartment of the victim, whom she shares children with, and began “aggressively knocking and banging on his window and door.”
When the victim opened the door to check on the noise, the complaint said he was surprised by Jenkins, who stabbed him in the chest and rib cage area with a knife.
The victim was transported to the hospital with a deep puncture wound and blood loss. Sgt. Parizek said his injuries were non-life-threatening.
Jenkins fled the scene before officers arrived. She was booked into the Polk County Jail Wednesday afternoon and is being held on a bond of $50,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 30th in the case.
