Cold air plunges into Iowa

IOWA — A cold surge of air is beginning to build into Iowa today. After a weekend in the 60s and 50s, we will drop to the 30s on Tuesday and 20s and teens on Wednesday and Thursday. The positive is it’s a short cold spell again with moderation and above-average temperatures next week.

The surge of coldest air arrives tonight with a strong cold front. The clouds will have a few flurries and snow showers that will pass through today and could bring a dusting to 1″ of snow by early Wednesday morning.

Not only is the front bringing snow showers but also cold winds. Winds will gust out of the northwest up over 30 mph on Wednesday and wind chills will stay in the single digits.
