Greenfield hospital to celebrate grand re-opening Wednesday

GREENFIELD, Iowa– The Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield is hosting a celebration on Wednesday to commemorate its grand re-opening.

In late May, an EF-4 tornado hit Greenfield, killing four people, and damaging or destroying 150 houses. The direct path of the tornado just narrowly missed the hospital.

The Adair County Health Systems CEO Catherine Hillasted previously told WHO 13 News that the hospital’s insurance was able to cover the cost of the needed repairs. It needed a new roof and interior repairs. The lab was severely damaged and needed to be gutted and renewed.

Primary care providers temporarily functioned out of Nodaway Valley Elementary school because of the damage.

Hillasted previously said that of the hospital’s 110 employees, nine of them lost their homes to the tornado, but they kept working to help patients.

“You take things one day at a time. That’s what you can do. Obviously, we’re working diligently with our construction team, as far as what the timeline looks for reopening back up. But, you know I’m confident that we will come back stronger than ever and ready to serve the community again,” she said in June.

The Adair County Memorial Hospital fully reopened in November and is hosting a grand reopening celebration on Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

The Adair County Health Systems is inviting all members of the community and any guests to stop by and check out the new county hospital. Parking is available at any parking lot around the hospital, and all doors will be open for people to walk through. There will be food and refreshments available.

The Adair County Memorial Hospital is located at 609 SE Kent Street in Greenfield.
