Des Moines homicide investigation leads to 3 arrests at homeless camps

DES MOINES, IOWA — Three men taken into custody at homeless camps around Des Moines have been charged in connection to an ongoing homicide investigation – including one man who allegedly pointed a gun at officers as they attempted to arrest him.

The three men have each been charged for their alleged role in robbing Bruce Murray and burglarizing his apartment at 513 Forest Avenue on November 21st. Murray was found dead with the cord from a vacuum cleaner wrapped around his neck and his hands bound behind his back. His apartment had been ransacked and numerous items were missing.

Police say security video shows three men enter Murray’s apartment on the day he was killed. Thirty minutes after entering, they leave with their arms filled with property. Des Moines Police detectives were able to identify the three men seen on the video after speaking with witnesses.

Three days later, police found a second suspect – 25-year-old Charles Adams – near another homeless encampment off MLK Parkway. Police say as they tried to take him into custody, Adams attempted to fire a 9mm pistol that he was concealing but detectives were able to disarm him. He is currently in the Polk County Jail facing charges including:

On Wednesday, November 27th, police found a third suspect – 49-year-old Deprece Tribble – at a homeless camp in the 1700 block of MLK. He, too, was taken into custody and is charged with Robbery and Burglary.

No charges have been filed in connection to the death of Bruce Murray but police say that investigation is still ongoing and more charges may be filed once autopsy results are released.
