POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, Iowa — A semi crash in western Iowa on Thursday morning resulted in an unknown amount of diesel spilling into a creek.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a semi traveling westbound on I-80 east of the Minden exit left the roadway and fell into Keg Creek. The semi driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a hospital in Omaha via air ambulance. The ISP said the driver suffered serious injuries.
Thursday evening the Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced that the crash resulted in an unknown amount of diesel spilling into Keg Creek. Temporary floating barriers, called booms, were placed downstream and will be in place until the semi truck is removed.
The DNR said no dead fish have been found at this time. Anyone who sees dead or stressed fish is asked to call the DNR’s 24-hour spill line at (515)725-8694.
