UNI-Dome renovation project finishes first phase

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa’s UNI-Dome has finished construction on phase one of its renovation project and is now getting ready to start its second phase.

UNI has already raised over $9 million of the $16 million needed for the project.

Phase one of the renovation replaced the roof with a state-of-the-art Teflon-coated fiberglass roof and the addition of a new football team meeting room.

Phase two of the project will replace and expand seating at the UNI-Dome, add a party deck, update and add restrooms, and update the suite level.

Pete Moris, the Director of University Relations, said the UNI-Dome holds a special place in people’s hearts.

“I think a lot of folks have great memories in this building, whether it was, you know, watching you in a football game, maybe a concert. Now, in addition, we’ve got the Iowa high school football playoffs, which we’ll be hosting once again. So and then there’s boat shows and farm shows and all that other stuff. But I think folks have a real connection with the facility because of those memories and those big events they’ve been part of here,” Moris said.
