DES MOINES, Iowa — Three separate Git N Go locations over the last seven days have been robbed in the morning, with the latest on Monday.
The convenience store on 2140 E. Park Ave. was robbed just before 7 a.m. Des Moines Police classified it as an armed robbery with the suspect, a male, brandishing a knife. No one was injured, but the suspect stole cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot after.
On November 8, the Git N Go location at 4164 Easton Blvd. was robbed around 6 a.m. This time there were two male suspects who assaulted the female clerk. Police say the clerk suffered a broken jaw in the robbery. The suspects ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
And last Monday, November 4, the location at 1240 Keo Way was robbed just after 10 a.m. No weapons were displayed in this robbery and the suspect again fled on foot.
An employee at the Keo Way location was not at the store during the time of this robbery, but worked the shift after. WHO 13 News spoke with him a week after his store was robbed. He has seen the violence escalate in the ones on Nov. 8, which left an employee with a broken jaw and the one today with the suspect armed with a knife; and it makes him angry and concerned.
“I’m always aware of my surroundings at all times, I’ll make sure I know who’s in the bathroom who’s not,” said Sebastian Rogelio, a part-time employee at Git N Go. “You just got to be prepared for anything I guess, and just comply for what they want, you know? Cause at the end of the day it’s not worth it, it’s not worth your life. It’s just sad what this generation has come down to, you know, people don’t want to work they just want to come steal from other people that are actually working, you know? We have nothing to do with your problems but you want to come and start other problems over here. Like I go to work every day, I am not out here stealing. If I could do it they could do it.”
Rogelio emphasized that he loves working his nights at the convenience store, his awareness has just been even more heightened because of the events over the last week.
WHO 13 News reached out to Git N Go Convenience Store Headquarters in Des Moines with a request for comment about the robberies and any directives they are communicating to employees. A spokesperson with the company shared no comment about the crimes.
The Des Moines Police Department is continuing to investigate all three robberies, and at this time there are no known connections between the three. The department is using security video footage in the investigation.
