GRIMES, Iowa — Hy-Vee is hosting its 25th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast at all of its store locations. From 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. veterans and active duty military members can eat breakfast for free.
The tradition started in 1999 at a store in Belton, Missouri, and has since become a company-wide event.
Walt Switzer, a veteran attending the Hy-Vee Veterans Day Breakfast in Grimes, said that Veterans Day means a lot to him and other veterans.
“Being a veteran, to me, it’s one of the most honorable things that an American citizen can be. I mean, really, I did 20 years in the Marines from 1966 to 86, and I’ve always been proud of it,” Switzer said.
Hy-Vee is also holding its annual Hy-Vee Homefront Round Up where through November 17th customers can round up at the register to raise money for a variety of veterans causes and Hy-Vee will match donations up to $100,000.
