Iowa’s 1st Congressional District race too close to call with less than 500 vote difference

IOWA — Iowa’s 1st Congressional District remains too close to call as of Wednesday morning.

The Associated Press has not officially called the race.

However, that didn’t stop incumbent Republican Marianette Miller-Meeks from calling the race a win for her third term as a U.S. Representative. After midnight, Miller-Meeks took to the stage to declare victory over Democrat Christina Bohannon.

She was confident despite the Selzer poll and only leading Bohannan by 416 votes and 97 percent of the precincts reporting at the time.

“The AP didn’t call my race in 2020. And here I stand. Now I’m going to be on my third term. So am I confident? You’re damn right I’m confident. I was confident this morning. I was confident when this piece of rag came out. And I remain confident tomorrow when Washington County finishes their votes,” Miller-Meeks said.

Bohannon has not conceded the race.

“We knew that this was going to be one of the most challenging races in the country. And there were pundits. and people in DC who thought that we did not have a chance to win this race. And now here we are this close. Getting down to the wire, and it is just too close to call,” said Bohannon.

We will likely get the rest of the results from Washington County later Wednesday morning which could decide the race if Miller-Meeks’ lead expands. There is still the possibility of a recount shaking things up for this close race.
