DES MOINES, Iowa — After celebrating Beggars’ Night on Halloween for the first time in decades the City of Des Moines is now asking residents if they would like to see the change made permanent.

Many metro communities like Bondurant and Windsor Heights have moved Beggars’ Night to the Saturday before Halloween. The change has had positive feedback as it allows for more time to prepare kids to go trick-or-treating and it’s not on a school night.

Des Moines is just the latest city to consider moving the night of Beggars’ Night. Johnston and West Des Moines have also sent out surveys asking residents if they’d like to keep Beggars’ Night where its at or move it to a different night.

Des Moines residents are being given the option to keep Beggars’ Night on October 30 or move it to Halloween night or the Saturday before Halloween. The survey is now open and will close on November 15. Residents can find the survey on the city’s website.
