16-year-old arrested in Ottumwa shooting that injured another minor

OTTUMWA, Iowa — The Ottumwa Police Department says a 16-year-old juvenile has been arrested following a shooting in Ottumwa on Thursday.

The Ottumwa PD says officers and medical personnel were called to North Mclean Street and East Holt Street on reports of a shooting just before 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, authorities identified a 15-year-old who had sustained a gunshot wound to the foot.

The injured minor was transported to a medical facility for treatment, Ottumwa police say.

According to authorities, an initial investigation determined that a group of minors had gone to the 300 block of North Mclean Street to confront another group of minors. Police say that an argument resulted in a juvenile from the first group firing a gun at the second group, resulting in the injury to the 15-year-old.

On Friday, the Ottumwa police say a 16-year-old was arrested in connection to the shooting. The 16-year-old had been charged with:

  • Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Class C Felony
  • Reckless Use of a Firearm, Class C Felony
  • Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, Class C Felony
  • Going Armed With Intent, Class D Felony

The Ottumwa Police Department says the 16-year-old was transported to a juvenile detention facility.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and that additional charges are pending on other individuals who were involved in the October 30th incident.
