Fire at Fort Dodge church damages building, nearby power lines

FORT DODGE, Iowa — A fire at a Fort Dodge church over the weekend caused damage to a building and nearby power lines.

According to the Fort Dodge Fire Department, firefighters were called to Corpus Christi Church in the 400 block of N 8th Street at around 7:43 a.m. Sunday. The fire department said that when firefighters arrived at the church, they saw heavy smoke coming from the former priest’s quarters, a separate one-story building.

The fire had spread through the attic to the west side of the building and caught a tree near the building on fire. The fire also damaged power lines.

A second alarm was called, bringing in an additional seven firefighters to the station. In total, the fire department said there were 21 fire department personnel at the scene for about three hours.

The fire department said no injuries were reported.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
