GRIMES, Iowa — A major gas leak has prompted officials to ask residents in a Grimes area to evacuate on Friday morning.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is asking people in the area between NW 7th Street and NW 3rd Street Place on NW Morningside Drive to evacuate for safety reasons.
The PCSO said a construction worker hit a gas line near 405 North Morningside Drive around 10:30 a.m. Black Hills Energy is on the scene to make repairs.
People are being advised to avoid the area until it is determined to be safe.
