CLIVE, Iowa — A Des Moines man has claimed the Lucky for Life ticket that won $25,000 a year for life.
Richard Hoversten, 79, purchased the winning Lucky for Life ticket on Wednesday night at the Hy-Vee in the 2500 block of East Euclid Avenue in Des Moines.
“I went to the store just to watch people,” Hoversten said. “That’s something we did growing up. We’d go to town Saturday night to buy groceries. Dad and I’d sit in the car and watch people. He’d say, ‘This is the best movie in town!’”
The day after he bought the ticket he checked it and discovered that he had won the $25,000 a year for life prize. His ticket matched the first five numbers but missed the Lucky Ball.
Hoversten, who is retired, chose the $25,000 a year for life option rather than the lump-sum option. He plans to use the money to pay off bills, invest in the future, support charities, and maybe even travel.
