DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man entered a guilty plea on Monday for his role in a shooting that injured two people outside of an East Village nightclub last year.
On the night of March 24, 2024, gunshots rang out outside of an East Village nightclub in the 600 block of E 5th Street following a dispute. When first responders arrived to the scene, they discovered two people suffering from serious injuries. Des Moines Police identified the shooting suspect as Cori Jayvon Shields, now 27.
Shields was originally facing attempted murder charges, but during a hearing on Monday, pled guilty to willful injury causing serious injury, reckless use of a firearm, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
During the same hearing Monday, a Polk County judge sentenced Shields to serve the sentences for each charge consecutively, one after the other, for a maximum of 25 years in prison.
