AMES, Iowa – An Omaha man was arrested in Ames Friday night after police say he pointed a handgun at multiple people and threatened them during a party.
Donovan Prusia, 21, is charged with first-degree harassment, false imprisonment, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, carrying dangerous weapons while intoxicated, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, interference with official acts, and harassment of public official.
According to the Ames Police Department, officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 100 block of Campus Avenue at 10:25 p.m. on October 25th on multiple 911 calls about a male pointing a gun at a female. When officers arrived, they found Prusia and a female in the hallway and police say he picked up a handgun as officers approached, despite commands to stay away from the gun. Prusia eventually dropped the gun, but police say he resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody.
Police said witnesses told them he was threatening people with the handgun at the gathering in the apartment building.
Prusia is being held in the Story County Jail on a $75,000 cash-only bond. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for November 6th.
