IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Johnson County Attorney’s Office says three people were arrested Tuesday in connection to a multi-agency human trafficking and money laundering operation.
The Iowa City Police Department made the arrests following a human trafficking investigation into two massage parlors. The massage parlors, named Paradise Spa, were located at 1901 Broadway Street and 805 S. First Avenue in Iowa City.
Zhenshi Liu, 60, and Junping Ren, 56, who owned and operated both salons, reportedly employed numerous female workers and required them to provide sex acts to the clients, according to the ICPD who interviewed several male clients.
Liu and Ren also reportedly provided sex acts to clients, the ICPD says. Authorities say that during the investigative period, it was reported that Liu had sexually assaulted a customer against their will.
Liu and Ren also allegedly laundered $2.6 million in cash proceeds through the purchasing of two residential properties, authorities say. Their son, 33-year-old Yang Liu, reportedly assisted in laundering $1.5 million through personal accounts.
The Johnson County Attorney’s Office says the three were arrested and received various charges.

- Pandering for Prostitution
- Pimping
- Prostitution
Zhenshi Liu has been charged with:
- Ongoing Criminal Conduct
- Money Laundering
- Third-degree Sexual Abuse
- Pimping
- Pandering for Prostitution
- Prostitution
Yang Lui has been charged with:
- Ongoing Criminal Conduct
- Money Laundering
The Johnson County Attorney’s Office says that, pending initial appearances, the three will be held on a $125,000 cash-only bond.
Iowa City PD and DCI were assisted in serving multiple warrants in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids by the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center, FBI, Iowa State Patrol, Cedar Rapids PD, Des Moines PD, University of Iowa PD, Coralville PD, Altoona PD, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office.
